Turtle Safari

Sea turtles are quite common in Madagascar, mainly in the Mozambique channel on the western coast.

During the day, we will visit 2 islands in the Nosy Be bay :
Nosy Tanikely and Nosy Sakatia.

Nosy Tanikely is a natural reserve. It is a giant aquarium.
On this paradise island, imbricated turtles or turtles with bird roster with their specific scales can been seen in shallow water.
They are 60 to 100 centimeters long and weigh between 43 and 75 kilograms. They feed on sponges, sometimes on jellyfish and sea anemones.

At Nosy Sakatia, imbricated turtles can be seen on a beautiful beach nearing the sacred forest, as well as the green turtles, one of the biggest ones after the luth turtle.
It is a hugh species, 100 to 200 kg in weigh and 1 m to 1m 50 long.
It is essentially herbivorous and feeds on the rich herb bottom in shalow warter. One can swin on their side or watch them eat peacifully.

At age of 15 to 20 years, imbricated and green turtles begin to breed. After a long trip in streams around earth, they lay a hundred of eggs on the beach where they were born and cover them with sand. Hatching starts 60 days later depending on heat and humidity of the sand.
